Sharon Jones lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on Friday. She was 60.
Jones, an American soul and funk singer, was the lead singer of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, based out of Brooklyn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation, the James Brown Family Foundation or Little Kids Rock.
In 2013, the soul singer announced she had been diagnosed with stage-one bile duct cancer. She underwent surgery and postponed the release of the Dap-Kings album, Give the People What They Want, which would later be released in 2014.
Performing on state at the satellite location in Havemeyer field on May 24, 2014 Jones wowed the crowds at the Greenwich Town Party.
