The Greenwich Jr United Way and Greenwich Youth Football League are teaming up to support Neighbor to Neighbor during the fall 2016 football season.
A special webpage was created by the Jr United Way on the Amp Your Good (AMP) website (https://ampyourgood.com/user/campaigns/2853) is set up to accept donations from now until November 23.
GYFL families, fans and town residents are encouraged to support their neighborhood team by donating food virtually using the AMP website through their team’s page.
The football team (North Mianus Bulldogs, Cos Cob Crushers, Putnam Generals, BANC Raiders, Riverside Gators and Glenville Mavericks) with the most pounds of food donated in their name will be recognized at their GYFL end of the season award ceremony.
“The GYFL is proud to be a part of such a wonderful collaboration that will benefit so many in our community,” said Frank Sarcone, GYFL President. “By partnering with the Jr United Way we will raise awareness by utilizing the greatest resource any community has – our children”.
Greenwich United Way CEO, David Rabin has coached the BANC Raiders for 15 years and believes this partnership will help Greenwich youth understand the true meaning of sportsmanship.
“Our football players and cheerleaders will have the opportunity to really help their neighbors and understand that their work on and off the field is equality important,” Rabin said. “I’m extremely proud of the kids in our community, the only way we can help those who are most vulnerable is by working together for the greater good”.
The idea to support Neighbor to Neighbor (NTN) began this summer when Jr United Way volunteered at NTN and learned about the food pantry’s supplemental food program exclusively for Greenwich families.
Last spring the Jr United Way partnered with the Outreach Club and National S.A.D.D Chapter at Greenwich High School to generate substance abuse awareness among teens in the community.
