Be a hero for kids with cancer and join the Western Cares 2018 St. Baldrick’s head shaving event at Western Middle School’s gymnasium on March 15, 2018 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
Whether you decide to shave your head, volunteer, or donate, organizers hope you’ll be a part of the excitement!
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the US government.
Get involved and you’ll be giving hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers!
One local participant is Heather Brown is shaving her head in honor of Greenwich’s Lynn Willow Gulli, who was diagnosed in 2017 with diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. You can find Heather’s fundraising page here.
“This cause hits close to home for the Western community, as two of our students have recently been stricken with this disease,” said WMS Principal Gordon Beinstein. “The Foundation’s single goal is to eliminate childhood cancer, raising $234,000,000 in research grant funding since 2005.”
Beinstein said he hopes the entire community will turn out to help support the cause.
“Shave your head, cut your ponytail or cheer us on while heads are shaved and hair is cut on March 15, all are welcome!” Beinstein said.
The St. Baldrick’s Head Shave Event raises funds by asking participants – ‘shavees’ – to solicit donations from friends, families, local businesses, etc. and in exchange they will shave their heads in solidarity with the kids who often lose their hair during cancer treatment. WMS is also offering an option for those that do not wish to completely shave their heads, but may solicit donations in exchange for cutting their ponytail (at least 8 inches).
All participants must submit a Participant Agreement Form and may obtain more information and sign up for the event at the Western Cares page of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation website.
Western Middle School is located at 1 Western Junior Highway, Greenwich.
