Dorothy Joan Griffiths was born May 23, 1942 in New York, New York where she would spend her younger years enjoying “The Heights” with her sisters, cousins and friends.

Dorothy’s parents were Mary Donnelly and James Shaw of New York, New York. They both precede her in death. Her older sister Mary Dykes also precedes her.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Raymond Griffiths, her sister, Carol Carfora, her loving children Kathleen Richards, Joseph and Wendy McCaffrey, Jeanmarie and Keith Johnston, and Nora and Andy Neiterman, her loving stepchildren, Candace Tangredi, David and Mary Griffiths, Stephen Griffiths and Cynthia Phillips.

Dorothy was blessed with wonderful grandchildren who survive her in death: David, Samantha, John, Matthew, Victoria, Nolan, Jake, Luke, Ashley, Jennifer, Amanda, Ryan, Aimee, Ana and Ian.

Ray and Dorothy traveled the world for many years – she especially loved visiting China, and Ireland.

Dorothy was ahead of her time when it came to organic foods, healthy living and eating, acupuncture, dancing, and anything to keep the mind, body and soul all in sync. Dorothy was always involved in the community volunteering for many organizations including Meals on Wheels.

One of Dorothy’s greatest joys was enjoying and celebrating her grandchildren. Her love and pride for each one of them was enormous. She and Ray loved attending the kids sporting events, concerts, lemonade stands….you name it, Dorothy was there.

Dorothy had an energy and appreciation for life. She had a fantastic sense of humor, was a great advisor and she enriched so many lives with her wisdom.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by many as wonderful wife, loving mother, nurturing grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, cousin, and wonderful confidant and friend.

Dorothy, a strong, amazing, proud New York City woman will forever be celebrated.  She peacefully departed Thursday, February 16, 2018.

Private services will be held in Greenwich, Connecticut.
