Harold George Fletcher, Sr., 93, of Greenwich, CT passed away peacefully in RegalCare at Greenwich on Saturday, January 13, 2018.
Born November 3, 1924 to Harold and Louise Fletcher, both deceased, he was eldest brother to Donald of Rehoboth Beach, DE (deceased) and Wallace of Vashon Island, WA.
A 1942 graduate of Greenwich High School, he served his class as Reunion Chairman and MC, and then proudly served his nation for three years as a Glider and Parachutist for the 82nd Airborne. Harold worked in tile sales, owning the Unique Tiles store in Old Greenwich, and was an early pioneer of importing Italian tile to the United States.
His extensive lifetime volunteering began at the age of 10, singing in the boys choir at Christ Church of Greenwich.
He continued to be devoted to Christ Church, serving as a lay reader, working with the St. Stephen’s Ministry, singing with “Celebration” music group and was an active founder of Camp Seaberry Summer camp. An avid reader, Harold was a wonderful storyteller, singer, painter and sculptor, and loved swimming, opera and animals, especially his family of dogs.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Gail Mead Fletcher; children Claudia (Joseph) DeVita, Harold (Laurie) Fletcher, Allyson (Peter) Halm, Tracey (John) McGuiness, Joel Fletcher, Carrie (Christopher) Normington and Jabez (Nicole) Huppunen; six nephews and nieces and 12 grandchildren.
