The new Anderson Guide to Enjoying Greenwich is here!  According to Carolyn Anderson, the newly published guide is the 10th edition. And, whereas last year the authors broke out the food guide to a separate book, this year the guide returns to a single book.

And it is fat. And it is up to date, which is no small task when it comes to listing  a town of our size. This week, Carolyn Anderson and Katie Bookser, Anderson Associates Realtor and Office Manager smiled with the satisfaction of a completed project. “The publisher told us that if it had one more page he wouldn’t be able to bind it,” Carolyn said.

“What other town could have this much going on, with this many resources?” Carolyn asked, but it was less a question than a fact. With a population of over 60,000, Greenwich might qualify as a city, but it prides itself on its small town feel.

The Anderson Guide to Enjoying Greenwich anticipates all your questions, and the authors provide answers as only longtime residents can.

The guide grew from what was originally a handout prepared for clients by Amy Zeeve, the Company Vice President. Zeeve had written a list of resources to help new residents get acclimated, find shops and restaurants, and become involved in town life.  The handout grew into a book, and what’s interesting is that it is almost as valuable to longtime residents as it is to newcomers.

Weighing in at over 600 pages, the guide includes reviews of over 220 restaurants, 400 stores and 200 sport and fitness activities. Plus it is filled with information about Town government, libraries, schools, cultural programs, child enrichment, senior programs, animal resources and other educational and fun programs.

Anderson has lived in Greenwich since 1968. A Greenwich friend introduced her to her husband Jerry while they were both graduate students at Columbia and living in the International House. “Jerry lived in Greenwich as a young boy, attending Brunswick and enjoying the town,” Carolyn said. “When we were married, Greenwich was the only town he would consider living in. How right he was!”

Carolyn said she’s been asked to duplicate the Guide for neighboring towns but has declined. “We live and work in Greenwich and we know what is happening here,” she said. “We feel the same way in our real estate company. Anderson Associates is a local, independent home town company. Knowing our community is greatly helpful,” she said, adding that when they sell a home, they are also selling the community. “We are in the unique position of helping newcomers become part of our town.”

The Anderson Guide to Enjoying Greenwich is available for purchase at Diane’s Books at 8 Grigg Street, Splurge Gifts at 39 Lewis St,  East Putnam Variety, Packages Plus-n-More and the Bruce Museum, as well as on Amazon.com (just be sure to purchase the 10th edition).
