Old Greenwich School teachers had a surprise on Tuesday morning when principal Jen Bencivengo and Assistant principal Abby Ostruzka sent them on a community scavenger hunt.
Following a pirate themed breakfast, the teachers were broken into eight groups of four or five and sent to participating businesses in the village of Old Greenwich, where they received instructions on a task and looked for a clue as to their next location.
Many donning pirate eye patches, the teams shouted “Sail Ho” as they passed each other during their hunts.
Stops included the Old Greenwich School office where they sang head-shoulders-knees-and-toes while being video taped by the secretary.
At the Mobil station, teachers had to squeegee a car.

At Sweat Pea’s Baking Company, they bought a chocolate chip cookie.
Other stops included Feinsod’s, Garden Catering, CVS, Upper Crust Bagel and the firehouse.
“It’s a team building and community building exercise,” explained principal Bencivengo. “And to reinforce that as a school, we are just one part of a greater community.”
At the very end of the scavenger hunt, which had a time limit of 45 minutes, teachers had one last task back at school, which involved putting together a puzzle representing the theme of #OG870Vision.
