Greenwich High School’s William Yin was honored by the Board of Education on May 25, 2017 at Glenville School. William was recently named a US Presidential Scholar.

“We believe that’s the first time in 14 years that GHS has had a US Presidential Scholar,” said GHS headmaster Dr. Chris Winters.

William is one of just 161 seniors chosen nation-wide for the recognition.

The US Presidential Scholar Program was initially established in 1964 to recognize and honor some of the most distinguished graduating seniors who have demonstrated exceptional talent in the visual creative performing arts.

In 2015, the program was extended to include students with exceptional achievement in career and technical education fields.

Dr. Winters said he was fortunate to have had William in his freshman mentor group four years ago and has marveled at all of his accomplishments.

“He is not only a brilliant thinker, but a perfect blend of gifted musician, athlete and community activist,” Winters said, adding that William has volunteered at the Albert Einstein Hospital in New York and First People’s Hospital in Shanghai, China. William also created science enrichment program for children in White Plains, NY.

“He is always thinking of new ways to learn and help others,” Winters said. “Clearly William is a superlative young man whose abilities, passions and spirit defy definition. His incredible talent and deep connections with people will enable him to make significant contributions.”
