Gallagher, 63, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Saturday May 27, at Waterbury Hospital after a prolonged courageous battle with kidney disease having received a transplant in 1996.
Joe was born on October 28, 1953 at Waterbury Hospital to Joseph & Roseann (McDermott) Gallagher.
While attending St. Francis School, Joe played on the All New England Champion baseball team in 1967. He was a member of the first class of Holy Cross High School in Waterbury participating in baseball, basketball, and football. He graduated in1972.
In his early years, Joe worked at Heritage Village in Southbury in the maintenance department before moving to Greenwich where he worked for the Town. He worked for the Greenwich Public School systems retiring after 31 years of service as head custodian.
Joe will be dearly missed and is survived by his three sons Brian, Kevin, and Keith; two sisters Kayanne Davis and Noreen Thompson as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents. Joe loved spending time with his family and attended all their sporting events. He was the #1 G-Ville Deli softball fan. Joe was a man of few words, but touched many lives.
The family would like to thank the staff of Yale New Haven Hospital and the Davita Center for their years of caring service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Joe’s memory to the Transplant Patient Care Fund located at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Visitation will be held at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Rd #3, Greenwich from 4:00-8:00 pm on Wednesday May 31, 2017. A mass will be held on Thursday June 1, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Thomas Church in 733 Oxford Rd, Oxford CT.
