Greenwich Free Press is running a two-week Journalism Camp at the YMCA Greenwich this summer. The camp will be coordinated by longtime Greenwich Public School teacher Jayne Hirshfield, and Leslie Yager, who is the editor/founder of Greenwich Free Press. They will be assisted by experienced high school senior reporters.
This is an opportunity to:
• become a reporter
• improve your interview and writing skills
• learn about cutting edge social media tactics
• learn about crime reporting
• write compelling headlines
• spot fake news
• take newsworthy photos
• get a peek behind the dashboard and access analytics
Mornings will feature a lesson and activity. Every camper will be published at least once on Greenwich Free Press with their own byline.
The program will feature field trips to local businesses and organizations within walking distance of the YMCA.
Guest speakers will include experienced photojournalists, police officers, police public information officer, heads of local non-profits, social media whizzes, and traditional newspaper reporters.
There will be a daily rec hour with choices including swimming, basketball, aerobics, Zumba, foosball, corn hole toss and ping pong.
July 10-21, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Two week program $1,300. Open to all rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Limited spots. First-come, first served.
