On Wednesday morning, Greenwich Police Dept announced the identity of a suspect in the recent robberies of the Chase Bank  and Citgo Gas Station, both on East Putnam Ave in Greenwich.

The suspect has been identified as David E. Byers, 34, of Solana Beach, CA.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Mr. Byers by Stamford Superior Court for the charges of Robbery 1, Robbery 3, (two counts) Larceny 2, Larceny 6, Reckless Endangerment 1. The court set Byers’ bond at $200,000, cash only.

According to a statement released by Lt. David Nemecek, press information officer at Greenwich Police, leads developed by Greenwich Police investigators, with the assistance of the FBI, indicated that Byers had fled to the area of San Diego, California.

An FBI and San Diego County Sheriff’s Task Force conducted surveillance of the believed location of Byers and ended up arresting him without incident at approximately 12:00am Pacific Standard Time on Wednesday.

Byers is currently in the custody of authorities in California and the Greenwich Police Dept have initiated a request for his extradition.

“This complex case has resulted in a speedy, successful arrest through diligent investigation by the Greenwich Police, with invaluable assistance from partners in the FBI, Connecticut State Police, Stamford Police, Westchester County Police, MTA Police and Port Chester, NY Police,” Lt. Nemecek wrote in the release. “It is likely that other law enforcement agencies will be completing appropriate arrest warrants for crimes that occurred in their respective jurisdictions.”

Greenwich Police will release nothing further, pending extradition of the suspect.
