It’s almost time for Art to the Avenue 2017.
The event, which is a collaboration of local stores in the Greenwich Avenue area and local artists, made possible by the Greenwich Arts Council runs from May 4 through May 29.
Now celebrating its Twentieth Year Art to the Avenue 2017 is bigger and better than ever.
Over 100 retailers in downtown Greenwich are participating this year, along with more than 120 artists.
The excitement has already begun as retailers and artists came together a short while ago to “choose each other” for their locations.
Each participating retailer has the opportunity to actually view and personally select the art work that will be displayed at their store. They meet the artist of their choice, and individually work out exactly the display that will be at their site for the month of May.
This “match” is one of the signature aspects of GAC’s Art to Avenue that makes it like no other in the area.
Also quite special is the spectacular Opening Night on Thursday, May 4, which runs from 5:30 to 8:00pm.
Practically every location on Greenwich Avenue will be hosting a special reception that night for the artists and the public. In addition the viewers will be entertained by more than 15 bands, musical groups and other performers all along the Avenue. It is the biggest arts festival in the area and not to be missed, and perhaps best of all it continues through the end of May.
Of special importance for both viewers and the artists is that all the art work is for sale, with a portion of the sale benefiting the arts education programs of the GAC as well as the artists.
All purchases can be made by calling the Greenwich Arts Council as at (203) 862- 6750.
