Update Jan 26, 2017, 12:15 pm. At Thursday morning’s police briefing, Lt. Kraig Gray provided additional details about Wednesday’s bank robbery at Patriot Bank on Lewis Street.
During the robbery there were no private citizens in the bank and bank personnel remained calm, composed and complied with the lone gunman who left the bank with an undetermined amount of cash. The suspect, who was spotted by a Greenwich Police officer by exit 3 of I95 southbound, refused to pull over despite police activating lights and sirens. Once on I95, he crashed into two cars, which caused him to lose control and crash. “He immediately fled on foot,” Gray said, adding that the suspect’s car was seized last night and is being processed for evidence.
“Once he crossed over into New York jurisdiction, many assets were brought into play, including canines, bloodhounds and a helicopter.” Lt. Gray said police from Port Chester, New York State and Westchester County all became involved in the effort to apprehend the suspect.
Lt Gray said that after fleeing the crash scene on I95, the suspect entered a private residence in Port Chester while the homeowners were home, and that is being investigated in New York.
“We are confident that the Greenwich Police will be able to solve the crime,” Lt. Gray said.

Original story, Jan 25, 2017 9:30pm. In the late afternoon of January 25, 2017 the Patriot National Bank located 100 Mason Street was robbed at gunpoint.
An email from Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray said that at approximately 4:30pm, a white male suspect entered the bank and displayed a handgun and demanded cash from a teller. The teller complied with the suspect’s demand and the suspect fled with the cash. No one was injured during the robbery. The suspect is described as:
- white male, 5′ 5″ to 5′ 7″ tall, average build
- wearing a winter hat, a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, light colored sneakers.
- The suspect also attempted to obscure his facial feature by applying some sort of dark colored makeup.
After fleeing the bank, the suspect was observed by a witness getting into a vehicle leaving the area. The suspect vehicle was quickly located by a Greenwich Police Officer as the suspect entered I-95 at exit 3 southbound.
The officer activated his overhead lights and sirens but the suspect refused to pull over and engaged the police in pursuit. Shortly after crossing into New York State, the suspect sideswiped a private citizen’s vehicle and crashed. The suspect immediately fled that crash scene and engaged officer in a foot pursuit off of I-95 and into the Port Chester Police Department’s jurisdiction.
The Greenwich Police Department, the Port Chester Police Department, and other surrounding New York agencies continue to search for the suspect. The investigation remains open and active, no further information will be released tonight
