The Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich had its 14th annual Thanksgiving feast on Tuesday, with about 400 children enjoying a meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing green beans, and pie for members of the after school program on Nov. 22.
Chief Heavey was busy dispensing the green beans, and he loosened up the 3-bean minimum established in 2015 by Parks & Rec Director Joe Siciliano. At the pie station, board member Rob Kirkpatrick, Greg Hannigan and GHS headmaster Dr. Chris Winters added dollops of whipped cream to slices of pumpkin pie. It’s no wonder the event is possible the most anticipated of the year for members of the after school program. But every year, volunteers abound, and the sense of community, a phrase so often tossed about, was palpable.
The event was sponsored by Morgan Stanley and Michael Creamer Landscaping. Again, the food for the event was prepared by Susan Watson Scully and her unflappable Watson’s Catering crew. Stew Leonard donated the turkeys.
