Greenwich Police Snag Man Attempting to Steal Car by Using Fake Paper Work at Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Greenwich Police HQ, Bruce Place - Greenwich Free PressOn Nov 11 at about 10:45am, Greenwich Police Dept received a tip that a person was on his way to Enterprise Rent-A-Car on Edgewood Ave to attempt to use a fraudulent ID and credit card in order to rent a car.

According to Lt. Kraig Gray, after Greenwich Police received the information, the detective division, patrol division and members of the CT Financial Task Force set up surveillance of the area.

“This is following a pattern of similar type of theft that has occurred in Stamford and likely also in other jurisdictions,” Lt. Gray said. “The attempt is to steal a car by using a fake ID and fake credit cards to rent a car.”

Police determined that Miguel Angel Morales, 41, of 1309 Washington Ave in Bronx, NY was in possession of a fraudulent drivers license, a debit card opened utilizing the fraudulent identification, and another credit card that was determined to be counterfeit.

Also, police learned that the subject was dropped off by unknown parties from New York City and was intending to rent a car under false pretenses.

He was charged with Larceny 1, Credit Card Theft, Illegal Use of Credit Card, Unlawful Reproduction of a Credit Card, Identity Theft 3, Forgery 2, two counts of Forgery 3, Conspiracy and Criminal Attempt.

His bond was set at $50,000 and he has a court date on Nov 18 in Stamford Superior Court.
