entire board of educationGreenwich’s Board of Selectmen has formed a committee, the Selectmen’s Board of Education Charter Revision Committee,  to review and make a recommendation on a proposal, originally submitted to the RTM, to increase the size of the Board of Education from eight members to ten.

The committee will hold an open public forum on November 9, 2016 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Central Middle School.

Prior to making any recommendation, the committee would like to hear from interested parties (including parents, voters, tax payers) on the proposal.   To date, the focus of the committee has been on fact finding and listening, particularly on:

• what changes are possible under the State of Connecticut statutes,

• what impact a change might have on the election process (competition, number of candidates, openness to unaffiliated candidates, etc.), and

•  what impact a change might have on the running of the Board of Education.

The committee has already hosted a series of public meetings where current and former Board of Education members and chairs, PTA Council officers and members, RTM members, DTC and RTC chairs and members, and members of the public have provided input.
