The ninth annual Howl & Prowl costume competition for humans and their canine companions benefited from a brisk but sunny afternoon on Greenwich Avenue on Sunday. The event featured face painting, food trucks, a parade, free samples from multiple vendors including Blue Buffalo.
The folks from Keifer’s Kettle Korn kept busy, which was great because they are big supporters of dog rescue. In fact they donated $40,000 last year to a variety of different shelters and sponsorship of rescue groups. On Sunday they took added donations with a goal of $500 which COO Cliff Davis explained is roughly the amount it takes to a rescue a dog from the south when you factor in spay & neutering, medical care and transportation up from the south.
Winners of the costume competition included a dog with a keen resemblance to Donald Trump and a button that read “We Shall Overcomb.” Another favorite which was recognized by judges was a girl and her dog dresses as gumball machines. A couple and their toy poodle came as Prince Charming and Cinderella, complete with carriage and glass slipper. There were witches, draculas, and ghost busters. There were were dogs dressed as bikers, dogs dressed as pumpkins and even a family dressed as pink pigs and the big bad wolf.
Pet Pantry is located at 290 Railroad Ave in Greenwich.
Adopt a Dog is located at 23 Coxe Ave in Armonk, just over the town line.
