It’s a busy weekend in Greenwich. Here are our picks for October 1-2, 2016:
SATURDAY, OCT. 1
Head to the Greenwich Farmer’s Market from 9:30-1:00pm in the Horseneck Lot (across from to the Boys & Girls Club by the Exit 3 interchange). In addition to a range of fruits and vegetables, it’s the start of APPLE SEASON!
The Greenwich Farmers Market is a Producers-only market – no jobbers – which means that the produce and products you purchase are grown and prepared by the farmers themselves.
The annual chili cook off at Diamond Hill Methodist Church runs from 3:00pm until 6:00pm at Diamond Hill United Methodist Church in Cos Cob. Just $10 to sample all the chili entries.
Contestants provide their chili to be judged by a panel of judges and also by the public who buy tickets for $10. The prizes are donated by the local merchants.Everyone is welcome to buy a ticket and taste all of the chili and talk to the chefs. The GHS class of 1976 is having its reunion. Run, Don’t Walk to the Greewnich High School’s Class of ’76 Reunion, Set for Saturday, Oct. 1
Greenwich High School’s class of 1976 is holding its 40th reunion this Saturday, Oct. 1. The event takes place from 6:30 to 11:30 pm at the Hilton Westchester, 699 Westchester Ave in Rye Brook, NY. The event includes full dinner, open bar, and dancing.
The class of 1976 senior year highlights included the airlift of the stadium bleachers from their swampy field to higher ground at the existing Cardinal Stadium. It was a time of fair isle sweaters, plaid flannel shirts, turtlenecks, corduroys, sideburns and ponytails. The Compass yearbook was printed in black and white and the Polar Bear Club drew ranks of brave swimmers.

SUNDAY, OCT. 2
Muddy Up! fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich starts at 9:00am at Camp Simmons, the Boys & Girls Club’s 77-acre wooded property on Lake Avenue in Greenwich.
The club guarantees a great morning of fun for all levels of runners and walkers at their 5th annual Muddy Up 5K Race & Family Walk.
The Muddy Up race will not be timed and all participants will receive a hand-made medallion upon completing the course, which requires traipsing through 18 unique obstacles, crossing a rope bridge, plunging into a gigantic mud pit, and being ‘rinsed’ off by the Greenwich Fire Department at the finish line. Alternate pathways will also be provided. Every dollar generated from the Muddy Up 5K supports the Club’s annual membership of nearly 2,000 children and enable the Club to continue to be affordable for all kids to be exposed to the unlimited opportunities that build character and self confidence. Everyone’s favorite flea market, the Knights of Columbus Flea Market, is set for Sunday from 10:00am until 4:00pm in the Island Beach Parking Lot.
Expect lots of 1940s kitchen items, some vintage clothing, old tools, artwork, small furniture, memorabilia and of course: great hot food off the grill.

Open House at Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company 10:00am until 3:00pm.
Come by the fire station to learn more about The Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company No. 1. They will do fire extinguisher demonstrations as well as tanker operation demonstrations. (Weather permitting)
If you are interested in getting involved in the company as a volunteer firefighter or in other ways, stop by to find out more. All are welcome to come by, feel free to bring friends and family.
Live Birds of Prey. “Birds of Prey, Live!” is the theme of the Fred Elser First Sunday Science at the Seaside Center program from 1:30 to 4:00 pm at Greenwich Point Park, Old Greenwich.
Visitors can get up close to live hawks and owls from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., when staff from New Canaan Nature Center will discuss adaptations, behavior, ecological importance and natural history of birds of prey. Throughout the afternoon, representatives from Audubon Greenwich will talk about what makes Greenwich Point an “Important Bird Area” and how to participate in the fall hawk watch in backcountry Greenwich. Event sponsors Friends of Greenwich Point and Bruce Museum will offer additional family activities celebrating the fall bird migration.
Calling All Sick Teddy Bears! Greenwich Hospital’s free Teddy Bear Clinic will take place on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at the building parking lot at 49 Lake Ave, behind the hospital.
The hospital-under-a-tent is a great way for kids to learn about hospital services – from the operating room and emergency department to diagnostic imaging and nutrition – in a family-friendly environment.
Come experience the friendly face of medicine, staged as a mini-hospital under tents. Chat with Greenwich Hospital doctors, nurses, technicians and other staff who will be on hand to answer questions, and diagnose and treat a variety of ailments for stuffed animals and dolls. Children are encouraged to bring a favorite stuffed friend for an exam.
