On April 17 and 18, Detectives from the Greenwich Police Dept Detective Division and Special Victims Section served three Juvenile Arrest Warrants in the Hartford area for auto thefts.

The arrests were the result of a lengthy investigation into one of a series of auto theft sprees in Greenwich.

These arrests involved 8 stolen vehicles from multiple residences in Greenwich on the night of July 16, 2017.

“In the last couple days we’ve been executing arrests in the Hartford area stemming from the spree back on July 16, 2017 when 8 cars were stolen in one night,” Slusarz said.

The three juveniles arrested were 15, 16, and 17 years old.

“We executed three arrest warrants, but the case is still under investigation,” Slusarz said.

On July 17, Greenwich Police Chief Heavey and Captain Gray held a press conference about the weekend spree of stolen cars and joy rides, resulting in 8 residents waking up to find their cars gone, and two high speed chases that endangered residents and police.

Chief Heavey said at the time that unfortunately Greenwich has developed a reputation as a destination for car thieves. “Not a single car did not have the keys in it,” he said.

That July weekend, cars were stolen from Shore Rd, Skyridge, East Elm, North St, Loch Ln, Dingletown and Milbank Ave.

Some of the cars stolen were a 2012 Mercedes SUV, a 2016 VW Jetta, a 2014 GMC Acadia, a 2006 Land Rover, a 2015 BMW 328, a 2011 Honda CRX, a 2015 Mercedez Benz and a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Drivers are reminded to lock their vehicles and take their keys and valuables when they park.
