A Greenwich woman is recovering after being struck by a car Tuesday night.

The woman, a 59-year-old Greenwich resident, was crossing Arcadia Road at its intersection with Sound Beach Avenue when a vehicle struck her, knocking her to the ground.

She was transported by GEMS to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:40 pm, according to a statement released by Greenwich Police on Wednesday morning.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Greenwich Police Department’s Traffic Section.

In an update issued by Lt Slusarz at 9:50am on Wednesday, police announced the driver of the vehicle immediately stopped and is cooperating with investigators. The pedestrian had what was described as “serious” injuries.

Tuesday’s incident is the second time in recent months a pedestrian has been hit by a car while crossing the street. On the evening of Feb 7, a man later identified as Robert Bono, 70, was hit by a car while crossing Milbank Ave. According to Greenwich Police, after being struck, Bono slid under a parked car. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

A year earlier, a pedestrian was hit by a car while crossing West Putnam Ave. That victim was a Port Chester man in his 80s who was crossing West Putnam Avenue at the intersection of Western Junior Highway when he was struck by a car and suffered serious injuries. The man later died at Greenwich Hospital.
