Thank a Cop Day at Joey B’s restaurant in Cos Cob kicked off bright and early on Tuesday. Throughout the day Greenwich residents stopped by to sign the Thank a Cop banner and chat with Greenwich Police. Many shared their stories of moments when first responders made a difference in their lives.
Also, a steady stream of Greenwich Police and first responders from the Fire Dept, GEMS and Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol stopped by throughout the day.
Thank a Cop Day was the brainchild of Domenick Delfino, who owns the popular eatery at the intersection of River Rd and Putnam Ave. “This is not a political statement,” he said. “It’s about giving and getting respect. I teach my kids respect. The event is simply a chance to say thank you for a job well done.”
Delfino said that longtime Cos Cob resident Frank Chimblo stopped by to say thank you to police. “His wife just suffered a heart attack and he came in to say that if it not for the EMTs and police getting her to the hospital quickly, his wife wouldn’t have made it.”
Delfino said another person stopped by to say thank you for helping a neighbor who fell last night.
“Every time we can communicate in a positive way that shows us doing our job, it goes a long way,” said Greenwich Police Chief Heavey.
