GPD Taking Applications for Police Camp in June, 2018

Greenwich Police are accepting applications for the 2018 Youth Citizens Police Academy. The five-day program begins Monday, June 25, 2018 and finishes on Friday, June 29 at Greenwich Police Dept.

Applicants must be Greenwich residents or children of Town of Greenwich employees, entering 7th, 8th or 9th grade in the fall of 2018. There is a $125.00 fee for the program.

The fee will provide each participant with a Youth Citizens Police Academy t shirt, certificate of completion and a barbecue on the final day of class.

Scholarships are available upon request.

The class is limited to 40 students and will be filled on a first come first served basis.

Completed application packets must include:

1. medical waiver form

2. Explorer Club Youth Application

3. Greenwich Police YCPA registration

4. Activity and photo consent form

5. $125.00 check or money order payable to Silver Shield Association

Completed application packets must be received at Greenwich Police Dept Community Impact Section by Friday June 7, 2018.

The Youth Citizen’s Police Academy provides Greenwich boys and girls with a first hand overview of both law enforcement and community related functions of their police department.

Topics of instruction include: Intro do Policing, SRU/K9, Motor Vehicle Stops, Domestic Violence, Intro to Forensics,Intro to Police Firearms, Community Impact Section, Crime Prevention, Marine Section/Police Boat Ride-Along, 911 Call Center, Juvenile Matters, and Physical Training* (not mandatory).

Instructors for the program are highly trained and experienced Greenwich Police Officers. In addition to participating in role playing exercises, attendees will accompany on-duty police personnel within the Marine Division on a Police Boat Ride-along. A demonstration at the Police firing range will allow recruits to participate in mock scenarios where an officer may or may not have to fire their weapon.

Applications may be obtained in person at the Greenwich Police Dept front desk, Greenwich Town Hall reception desk, or downloaded from the Town of Greenwich website.
