The 8th annual chili cook off at Diamond Hill United Methodist Church is set for Oct 1 from 3:00pm til 6:00pm.
Carol Willson and her two daughters, Lauren Johnston and Sandra McMurray, who run the chili cook off are looking for entries for this great tradition that benefits Neighbor to Neighbor food pantry. Willson tells us Diamond Hill Church has covered the expenses so that all of the income goes to Neighbor to Neighbor, and for many years, Boy Scout Troop 10 has helped with the set up and clean up.
The cook-off is open to anyone that wants to enter. Entrants have included Corbo’s Deli and Little Pub for quite a few years, though Willson tells us sometimes they win and sometimes they don’t. “We also have people representing organizations such as Ladies Auxiliary Cos Cob Fire co, Cos Cob fire Patrol, Glenville Fire Co, Kids in Crisis, Mianus River Boat & Yacht Club,” Willson said.
The contestants provide their chili to be judged by a panel of judges and also by the public who buy tickets for $10. The prizes are donated by the local merchants.Everyone is welcome to buy a ticket and taste all of the chili and talk to the chefs. Be prepared for some of the best meat, veggie, turkey, and seafood chili you have ever tasted.

The cook-off is always the first Saturday in October unless Columbus Day falls on that day. This year the cook-off is set for Oct 1 from 3:00pm until 6:00pm.
“We are always looking for more contestants and of course more people to walk in the door,” Carol Willson said, adding the judges will again be Fred Camillo, Mike Bochinno and Bob Strassel.
Diamond Hill United Methodist Church is located at 521 East Putnam Ave in Cos Cob.
The Neighbor to Neighbor food pantry is located at Christ Church and services families in Greenwich.
