Thursday morning, Greenwich Schools Opening on a One-Hour Delay
Storm update, March 21, 9:30pm:
With a less than predicted snowfall, and the ability of Greenwich Public Works and Parks & Recreation crews to clear Town roads and sidewalks, Greenwich Town Hall and its facilities will open at the regularly scheduled time of 8:00 am on Thursday, March 22, 2018.
Snow removal operations were made a bit easier because of residents following Snow Emergency regulations.
“We are pleased that most Town residents were proactive and obeyed the Snow Emergency parking ban,” said First Selectman Peter Tesei in the statement. “While some Town residents’ cars were towed, for the most part, residents realized the importance of keeping the major routes in Town clear so that our DPW and Parks & Recreation crews can effectively do their work – clearing the streets so that we can resume normal operations and lift the Snow Emergency as soon as possible.”
The Town’s Snow Emergency and the on-street parking ban along Snow Emergency routes will remain in effect until further notice. (The list of Snow Emergency routes can be found on the Town website.)
On Wednesday, March 21, 20 vehicles left along Snow Emergency routes were ticketed and towed.
According to Greenwich Police Chief James Heavey, the number of motor vehicle accidents was minimal because residents heeded advice to stay off the roads. There were 11 crashes as of 9:00pm and no one was injured in those events.
There has been minimal impact on coastal flooding, with no power outages reported during the storm. As of 9:15 p.m., there was only one report of a fallen tree limb.
Should residents lose power and are in need of a warming center or a place to charge their electronic devices, the Public Safety Complex, 11 Bruce Place, is open 24/7.
Residents are reminded that Town ordinance requires the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks within 24 hours of the end of a storm event.
Snowplow operators also are reminded that it is illegal to push snow into roadways.
Town officials will continue to monitor the progress of the storm through the overnight hours.
The next update is expected to be released about 9:00 am on March 22.
