Greenwich Police Release Name of Agnes Morley Resident Killed on Milbank Ave

Greenwich Police have released the name of the man killed around 5:55 pm on Milbank Avenue on Wednesday.

The pedestrian, a resident of Agnes Morley Senior Housing, operated by the Greenwich Housing Authority, was Robert Bono, 70, was struck by a JEEP SUV driven by an out-of-town man who was heading south on Milbank Ave.

The speed limit on Milbank Avenue is 25 miles per hour.

Mr. Bono was struck in front of Agnes Morley, but it is not known whether he was using the crosswalk. At the time he was struck, it was dark and raining.

After being struck, Mr. Bono slid under a parked car. Greenwich Police, Fire and EMS responded to the scene and were able to extricate him. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Police say the driver of the JEEP immediately stopped and has been cooperative with investigators. His name is being withheld pending further investigation.

According to Lt Slusarz, the weather could have been a factor, and police are also looking at the speed the driver was traveling. be a factor. Looking at speed.

Slusarz said investigators need to be able to determine whether Mr. Bono was in the crosswalk when he was hit. “Hopefully the reconstruction will pinpoint that. It was very icy,” Slusarz said. “There’s a lot of dynamics we’re working out. Until we start working the numbers, it’s hard to say which of the variables at play.”

The cause of death has yet to be determined. The Medical Examiner will make that determination.

The police have not charged the driver. “There are too many unanswered questions at this point,” Slusarz said.

Almost to the day, a year ago, a pedestrian who was hit by a car while crossing West Putnam Ave. That victim was a Port Chester man in his 80s who was crossing West Putnam Avenue at the intersection of Western Junior Highway  when he was struck by a car and suffered serious injuries. The man later died at Greenwich Hospital.
