On a hot June morning at the Greenwich Farmers Market at Horseneck Lot, the sight of the Caffé Bon food truck was like an oasis in the desert.

Bumping into my friend Carol at the same time was serendipity. Between interviewing Debbie at Roses for Autism (look for the story on Thursday) and John from Plasko’s Farm, Carol and I had a chance to catch up with Maria Pietrobon and meet her fantastic GHS intern, Amanda Blieberg.

Amanda has a great story. Amanda, who has since graduated from GHS, said she had reached out to several people in the food service industry to ask for an internship, with no luck. “She was the first person who would hire me,” Amanda said of Maria.

“I am blessed,” Maria said of having connected with this eager teenager seeking work experience.

Amanda, who is planning a gap year of work experiences, will ultimately head to Southern New Hampshire University in the fall of 2016. In the meantime, she said, “I wanted to spend my gap year at the Dynamy Internship year. It’s basically college without the classes and they help you apply for a series of internships for work experience.”

Anyone who knows Maria is aware that she’s a good karma person who happens to have the most delicious coffee drinks and paninis. She makes it all look easy, but there is a great deal that goes into the preparation. That is why Maria is sought after as a caterer for events in town.

And whether you find her at Touch a Truck, the polo grounds, Bruce Park, Greenwich Town Party or Mother’s Day bike ride, her coffee, paninis and baked goods are stellar.

Maria, whose upscale food truck was formerly a staple of the Town Hall parking lot, is enjoying her third season running the Byram Beach concession stand, where the menu features homemade lemonade, organic burgers and paninis.

Follow Caffe Bon on Facebook to keep up with the next place Maria’s truck will pop up.
