The state is on full storm warning. Heavy snow is falling and creating low visibility and some white out conditions. There is 8-14″ of snow expected to fall. The winter storm warning is extended until 1:00am on Friday. Thursday’s high will be near 25°.  Friday’s high will only be 11°.

In Greenwich, the snow emergency remains in effect. Parking on snow emergency routes is prohibited. (Click for list of emergency routes).

On Thursday morning, Gov Malloy described the storm as a major weather event, and said that while highways are open, conditions are hazardous at times, making travel treacherous.

Gov Malloy said that while there is no highway ban in effect, it is highly recommended that Connecticut motorists stay off the highway to allow crews to clear highways and assist neighboring states. The DOT has added 200 private contractors to help fight the storm. Non essential state employees are instructed not to report to work.

This intense cold is dangerous and will continue through the first half of Sunday.

The forecast is for blowing and drifting snow to continue through Friday morning.
