The International School at Dundee on Thursday Dec. 14 held its annual 4th Grade Art Show and Holiday Concert celebrating seasonal songs from various cultures.
Nearly 150 students from 4th and 5th grade in all three groups – advanced orchestra, fifth grade band and chorus – performed songs like Tidings of Joy!, Chanukah, O, Chanukah, and Japanese Snow Song.
The venue, the school’s gymnasium, was filled with over 200 family members and friends supporting and cheering the young artists.
“The orchestra, chorus and band directors have always challenged their students with music that is not simple, instead, students learn music that are out of their comfort zone and challenge their intellect,” ISD’s Principal Mrs. Terry Ricci said.
The Art Show by fourth graders, held on the school premises, is inspired by their recent visit to the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City, where they explored first hand the central question of their Color My World IB Unit: “How Can Humans Express Themselves Through the Visual Arts?”
The MOMA collection sparked the students’ interest in a variety of artists, artwork and materials. The dynamic results will be on display until after the holiday vacation at ISD, 55 Florence Road in Riverside.
