The Greenwich Choral Society is launching its 2016-2017 season with an informal community sing-along of Vivaldi’s GLORIA on Tuesday, September 13 at 7:15 pm, at First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich.

A reception will follow the event. (Directions to the Daniels Center at First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich, 108 Sound Beach Ave. can be found at www.fccog.org)

The Vivaldi Sing is open to accomplished singers, people who enjoy singing and anyone who might like to try. Absolutely no experience is necessary. The audience will be the choir!

This event will be an opportunity for anyone considering joining the Greenwich Choral Society to get a firsthand look at how we operate. Current members of GCS are looking forward to “tuning up their voices” at the Vivaldi Sing and it is hoped that non-GCS members who attend the event will hear the Vivaldi and be enticed to join the choral society in order to perform it in concert with the Stamford Symphony Orchestra in March.

The event will be conducted by Paul F. Mueller, Music Director of the Greenwich Choral Society, who will provide insights into the history of the composer and the work. A preview of the Greenwich Choral Society’s 2016-2017 season will be presented, and a relaxed, informal environment will prevail. Music will be available at the door at no charge.

An appointment to audition for regular membership in the Choral Society can be arranged before or after the Vivaldi Sing. Open auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 6 and Wednesday, September 14 starting at 6 PM, as well as on Saturday, September 10 and 17 starting at 10 AM. Singers are needed for all voice parts, particularly tenors.

The Greenwich Choral Society, a 125-voice experienced volunteer chorus, sings a broad repertoire of classical music. Musical plans for 2016-2017 include a traditional holiday concert featuring works for chorus, brass and harp (December 3 and 4), Schubert’s Mass in G with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra (January 21 and 22), Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Stamford Symphony Orchestra (March 4 and 5), Bizet’s Te Deum and Puccini’s Messa di Gloria (May 6).

The Chorus rehearses Tuesday nights in Old Greenwich. A 10-minute private audition consists of vocalizing to demonstrate range and quality of production, followed by sight-singing; NO prepared piece is required. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact Bill Fulton at cbful@snet.net.
