Margaret Gasparino, a longtime resident of Greenwich passed away peacefully on Monday November 20, 2017. Margaret was born on August 27, 1924 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to the late William and Elizabeth (Clay) McElroy. Margaret emigrated to the United States at the age of 18. Margaret fell in love and married her husband the late Anthony “Junior” D. Gasparino Jr.
Mrs. Gasparino was the devoted and loving mother to her three daughters Mary (Frank) Pedwano of Milford, Kathleen (Joseph) Antonini & Margaret McAvoy. She was predeceased by her son William “Billy” Gasparino. She also leaves behind her eight grandchildren and eight Great Grandchildren. Margaret was predeceased by her siblings Felix, Joseph and Betty McElroy and Annie Lucas of Belfast, Northern Ireland
Margaret spent over 20 years working as the head cashier at the Greenwich High school Cafeteria, retiring in 1994. She spent her retirement volunteering at the Greenwich Senior Center and being active with the AARP of Western Greenwich, AARP of Glenville and the Byram Seniors. She would often be seen taking bus trips to the casino with these groups. However, her greatest joy was her family and keeping up to date with all their activities.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Roch Church, 10 St. Roch Ave on Wednesday November 29, 2017 at 9:30 am in Greenwich, followed by burial in St. Mary Cemetery in Greenwich. Family and friends may visit at the Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Rd #3 on Tuesday November 28, 2017 from 4:00pm -8:00pm.
