On Saturday, October 28th, the Greenwich High School Model UN team took 20 students to Horace Mann School in the Bronx, NY to compete at their first big conference of the year–a conference of around 1000 students. GHS collected eight awards, including overall Outstanding Large Delegation, a commendation for the second best school.
“Greenwich High School Model UN leaders have worked tirelessly to prepare new club members for the rigors of conferences like Horace Mann,” said club advisor Ian Tiedemann. “Leaders plan activities and work to put the club in the best position possible for the future.”
Sophomore Pietro De Ferrari was recognized as “Best Delegate” for his work on the JCC American Revolution: British committee. Reflecting on his success at Horace Mann, De Ferrari said, “Model UN isn’t just about country policy or passing resolutions. There’s a social aspect to it that’s incredible. I always seem to leave a conference with new friends.”
Sophomores Shane McLaughlin and Luis Quisumbing, freshman David Katz, and junior Monique Nikolov were recognized as “Honorable Delegates” for their work on various other committees. Sophomore Akshay Joglekar and freshmen Iris Shi and Joshua Winston received “Verbal Commendations.”
