Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich’s Camp Simmons has been hosting Christmas in July for 15 years, and on Friday, campers agreed ‘tis the season’ when special guest, Santa Claus, rode in on his summer fire sled, courtesy of Greenwich Fire Department North Street Station, to bring cheer to them all.
“It’s a nice way to tie in Christmas in July, which is a national Boys & Girls Club theme,” said the club’s Director of Programs, Don Palmer. “Just hosing kids off makes it extra special,” he said. ” It’s just good old fashioned fun.”
One of you younger campers scratched his head when asked what was his favorite part of the day. “Getting sprayed with water by Santa,” he said.
After Santa finished spraying off the kids, they dispersed, with some dozens enjoying the outdoor swimming pool, while others played ball with Mike Gerald and Alberto “Chile” Larraguibel, who received this year’s Youth of the Year award, which was presented in a moving ceremony back in April. Happy campers, all around.
