Wednesday night’s Architectural Review Committee meeting features the return of the applicant seeking to develop an apartment building called “The Charleston” on Milbank Avenue.
The application was initiated prior to the town changing regulations for the R6 zone. Since June 1, it is no longer possible to combine lots and build multi-family residences greater than one or two-family homes.
The applicants want to merge 6 lots into one, demolish 5 houses on Milbank and one on Havemeyer, and construct the 19 unit building complete with underground parking for 19 vehicles, plus on-grade parking for 18 vehicles totaling 84,767 square feet.
The applicant met with a chorus of disdain from the ARC on Sept 7. Neighbors turned out in force, and submitted a petition to the committee.

John Ferguson, a Greenwich resident of 45 years, who resides at 250 Milbank Ave, directly across from the proposed development, described the proposed building as a travesty and looked like “The Berlin Wall.”
Debbie Cowley of 252 Milbank Ave said the building would take away from the character of the street.
