River House is hosting an education program on effective communication strategies to help caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.
Communication is more than just talking and listening. Caregivers in the community are invited to join Tania Paparazzo, LMSW, Southwest Regional Director of the Connecticut Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, for a presentation on “Effective Communication Strategies” on Wednesday, July 29th at River House Adult Day Center.
Participants will explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s. They will learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia. Strategies will be identified that help the caregiver communicate at each stage of the disease.
“Effective Communication Strategies” will be held on Wednesday, July 29 from 12:00 to 2:00pm at River House, 125 River Road Extension, Cos Cob.
Lunch will be provided and respite is available with prior arrangements to participants who are caring for someone during the day.
The educational program is free of charge and open to non-professional caregivers in the community. Space is limited and registration is required. Please contact Lynn Treffeisen at 203-622-0079 for more information or to register.
