Sunday started out cloudy, but the clouds gave way to an Indian summer afternoon as thousands headed to Roger Sherman Baldwin Park for Adopt A Dog’s 30th annual Puttin’ on the Dog event sponsored by Pet Pantry Warehouse.
In addition to adoptable dogs from Adopt a Dog, the event featured numerous dog rescue organizations with adoptable dogs and cats, and fun contests including the Aged to Perfection – Dogs 10 years or older contest, Pooch Who Can Smooth, and Mirror Mirror (dogs who look like their owner).
Among the rescue groups were Pit Stop Rescue, Shelly’s Angels Saving Strays and Nami Kim’s Save Korean Dogs.
Sherry Kline, a local volunteer for Save Korean Dogs said she was moved to help Ms. Kim who goes on foot right into dog meat farms in South Korea and is often able to rescue some or all dogs. “She’s been chased and she’s been beaten,” Kline said.
The dogs Ms. Kim rescues from the meat trade are mostly Jindo or Jindo mixes. Ms. Kline said the adoptable dogs from Save Korean dogs are fearful, but are ready for adoption and just require some patience.
Shelly of Shelly’s Angels Saving Strays (SASS) traveled all the way from Tennessee to find homes for dogs. (Editor’s note: We love Shelly! She found Roger for us. He’s the best!) Sept 17, 2017 Photo: Leslie Yager
