Director of School Facilities Appointed for Greenwich Schools

Greenwich Schools has hired Daniel Watson as the District’s Director of School Facilities, effective Monday, October 2, 2017.

With over 14 years of experience in facilities administration, Mr. Watson is currently the Director of Construction and Facilities Management with Stephen Gaynor School in New York, NY.

The appointment was announced on Friday evening by Dr. Jill Gildea.

“Mr. Watson will join our team with extensive experience in project management, facilities coordination, master plan development, and financial planning,” said Chief Operating Officer Lorianne O’Donnell. “His time within the public sector, a school environment, and construction management is greatly valued and we look forward to welcoming him.”

Mr. Watson will replace Ron Matten who resigned in July to take a position position as Executive Director of Facilities for Hunter College in New York.

The Director of School Facilities leads, directs, manages and insures the proper care conduct of the general maintenance, repair, and cleaning of all Greenwich Public School buildings, properties utilized by the Schools, and facilities equipment. Administrative candidates are selected after a comprehensive search and appointment process, which includes widespread recruitment efforts, multiple interviews, and extensive reference and background checks.

According to the release from Greenwich Schools, Mr. Watson has extensive experience managing all phases of continuing multi-phase construction projects, with ventures ranging up to $650 million.

In his current role, in addition to being responsible for operational budgets in excess of $15 million, he oversees and schedules facilities maintenance and custodial staff, security, and administrative staff.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Watson served as Senior Project Manager for capital and maintenance projects throughout the New York Public Library system as well as the redevelopment program for the public spaces at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.

Mr. Watson received a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial arts and technology from the State University of New York at Oswego, Oswego, NY in 1983.
