The YMCA of Greenwich appointed Bob DeAngelo, former executive director of the Greenwich Boys and Girls Club its new CEO, effective August 15.
“Bob is a community leader who knows Greenwich residents from all walks of life and of all ages,” said YMCA Board Chairman Sandy Waters.
During his 16-year tenure, Bob re-energized and rebuilt the Boys and Girls Club with creative programming and innovative fundraising.

Bob more than doubled average daily membership attendance, managed a staff of 60 people, and created celebratory events for the Club’s 100th anniversary.
He also led the Club’s first-ever capital campaign to rebuild its historic main clubhouse.
“I’m excited to take on the challenge of creating at the Y a weave of residents from all income levels, serving not only kids, but also adults and seniors,” Bob said.
“We are very fortunate to have Bob join the Y,” continued Waters. “He will help ensure a seamless transition as the YMCA prepares to celebrate its centennial in 2016.”

It was recently announced that current Executive Director, Ed Philipp, who came from the Rye YMCA in August 2012, will leave to pursue other endeavors. Under his leadership, the YMCA settled its construction debt, provided more than $400,000 of financial aid to the community annually, expanded and re-energized its volunteer network, and operated cost-effectively and profitably.
Ed was also instrumental in launching the “Y for All” and the “No Swimmer Left Behind’ initiatives.
Founded 99 years ago in 1916, the YMCA is the largest community-based membership organization in Greenwich. Part of a well-known YMCA national network, the Greenwich Y has 5400 members. Its programs in healthy living and youth development seek to serve and to nurture the potential of everyone in our community, whether or not they have the ability to pay for its programs.
