Children in the Palace Theatre Circus Camp, held at the Boys & Girls Club of Yerwood Center, put on a showcase for their sponsors at First County Bank on July 20.
The performance was filled with different acts, from balancing peacock feathers to twirling ribbons, and the children, from kindergarten to third grade, showed off their new circus skills.
“My favorite thing is balancing and flipping the peacock tail. I can jump it up and put it on my other hand,” said Sajai McPherson, a seven-year-old participant in the program.
“My favorite part is the streamers. I like all the friends I’ve made here,” said Suri Luna, 8.
Melanie Batres, also 8, echoed Suri’s sentiments, saying, “My favorite part was doing the streamers and meeting new friends. It was really fun.”
Sarah Tucker, Vice President at First County Bank, talked about how special the performing arts program is to First County Bank.
“Our involvement is through our foundation. Every year we give grants to different non profits in the community that do a lot of good work,” she said. “This program gives opportunities to economically challenged children and gives them exposure to the performing arts through Stamford center for the arts.”
The showcase was certainly successful, as all acts were well rehearsed and entertaining to watch.
Most importantly, the performers all had fun and were able to make new and exciting memories throughout the course of the week.
“This is our second year partnering with palace theater. We’re thankful for the First County Bank for sponsoring this program,” said Maribel Sandalo, unit director for the Boys and Girls Club of Yerwood Center.
The children had a lot of fun juggling plates and performing comedy. Everyone was truly grateful for the experience.
