Sarah Gleeson and the athletes, partners and coaches of the Special Olympics Darien Sailing Program
The Greenwich Lions Foundation has given its financial support to the Special Olympics-Darien Sailing Program for the 2017 season.
Lion Sara Gleeson, a Riverside resident and a Special Olympics coordinator, presented a check to the team at its first practice held at Riverside Yacht Club last month.
The team practices at the club throughout the summer, preparing for the state-wide regatta in Stonington in September.
The event will feature three Connecticut sailing teams, two days of competition, a dinner dance, and of course an awards ceremony. The season culminates in the Special Olympics Connecticut Fall Sports Festival.
