Sunday was a beautiful day for Greenwich’s Shellfish Commission’s 11th annual “Experience the Sound’ event at Greenwich Point.
The event’s theme, “From Streams Through Soil to Sea” emphasized that Greenwich’s ecology is connected to Long Island Sound, encouraging residents to be good caretakers of the land and the Sound.
The event attracted the curious, whether their interest was history, ecology, environmental stewardship or outdoor sports. Guests toured the Schooner SoundWaters as well as clam and oyster boats.
At Innis Arden Cottage, home to the Bruce Museum’s Seaside Center in summer months opened for the season and eager volunteers shared information about a variety of sea creatures.
The event was open to the public and also included an art show and a free raw bar.
Activities took place around the Innis Arden Cottage where several community groups manned tables, the Old Greenwich Yacht Club and its docks, and the old mansion area at Greenwich Point. A free shuttle bus was available to take participants around to the three areas.
