UPDATE 12:30pm, June 1, 2017: At the Thursday press briefing, Lt. David Nemecek of Greenwich Police Dept provided additional details on the May 31 drug arrests on Hamilton Avenue.
Nemecek said the Narcotics Unit began conducting their investigation back in December, and that it was a challenge to get into the establishment because those involved were a “close-knit community.” When police executed the search & seizure warrants at 176-1/2 Hamilton Avenue, a second floor apartment, the suspects were selling prescription medication out of the house.
Police say the primary focus of the investigation was was John Deandressi. With time, police were able to get search warrants for Mr. Deandressi’s person and his residence at 176-1/2 Hamilton Avenue.
Police conducted surveillance of the establishment and observed someone they knew through past contacts to be Christopher Cannizzaro, who they described as a known drug user.
Cannizzaro exited the residence, entered his vehicle, and police followed him to Port Chester where they observed him exchange money for drugs. Police followed Cannizzaro back to Greenwich, where he exited his vehicle and went upstairs to the second floor apartment.
Another suspect with narcotics history was seen going into the residence by investigators positioned on the house.
When police returned to the house, they went to the second floor and knocked. The door came open and police observed John Deandressi, Laura Giacomara and Christopher Cannizzaro holding instruments conducive to smoking crack cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia. In close proximity was a pile of white powdery substance that later tested positive for crack.
The fourth suspect, Daniel Wilson, was in his bedroom at the time. He immediately acknowledged having five Percocet pills. He was advised and detained.
On a positive note, during the post arrested interview Mr. Deandressi confessed to selling prescriptions for narcotics.
Police say the most discouraging aspect of the operation was that children were playing outside the apartment at Hamilton Avenue School.
