The First Selectman’s Youth Commission voted in March to partner with the Greenwich Council, BSA for their annual “Scouting For Food” drive for Neighbor to Neighbor’s food pantry.
The town-wide event took place on Saturday and the teens from the Youth Commission helped the Scouts collect, sort and store over three tons of food donations.
“On behalf of the First Selectman’s Youth Commission, we were honored to be asked to lend a hand for Scouting for Food,” said Jenny Byxbee with the Greenwich Youth Services Bureau. “

The youth commission members distributed collection bags at their schools prior to the event and delivered them filled with food items to Christ Church on Saturday.
“Personally, for me, it was really great to have the youth commission partner with another group in town and achieve such a great outcome,” said Graham Plewniack, who is part of the Youth Commission member.
“We were extremely grateful to have the support of the youth commission this year,” said Heather Brown Lowthert, Greenwich Council, Program Director.
“Our main drop-off area is the busiest and the youth commission members jumped right in to help and stayed until our last crate was put away.” In total, 229 crates were filled with popular food pantry items surpassing last years total of 160 crates.
The First Selectman’s Youth Commission of Greenwich provides an opportunity for high school students to get involved in the community. The teens on the Commission, who come from both public and private schools, work directly with the First Selectman and town’s Youth Services Coordinator.
