On Tuesday, Feb 28, Joe Kaliko of Needs Clearing House presented a check to Greenwich Police Dept for $1,000, in a jump-start a fundraiser for the Greenwich Police Departments’ Scholarship fund.
The goal of the fund is to grant realistic scholarships every year to every qualified applicant largely out of interest income generated by a substantial capital.
The cost of a college education has skyrocketed and the fund has tried to keep pace by awarding increasingly larger scholarships, but help is needed.
The Greenwich Police Dept Scholarship Fund was incorporated in 1962 and was granted tax-exempt in 1963. The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship money to the children of active Greenwich Police Officers who are qualified by ability and character to receive a college education.
The Fund is governed by a Board of Directors including the Chief of Police, the Greenwich High School Headmaster and the Town Attorney.
On Tuesday, Joe Kaliko of Needs Clearing House was accompanied by Andrew LaSala from one of the NCH partners, Building Hope Foundation.
“One of our partners was here today,” said Kaliko, referring to Mr. LaSala.
“This is our kick-off via Joe,” Mr. LaSala said. “We have volunteer teachers who review all the applications. The scholarships are for four years, though each year the student must remain in good standing.”
Following the check presentation, Greenwich Police family and friends headed to the truck garage for the promotion ceremony of Sergeant Slusarz to the rank of Lieutenant and Detective Ted Latiak to the rank of Sergeant.
